Today Allergan announced their acquisition of Kythera which will include the addition of Kybella to the Allergan portfolio.
RR Aesthetics Medical Director Leif Rogers performs the treatment here at our office. Below are some Q & A about Kybella.
What is Kybella?
Kybella is an injectable medication that is used to break down the fat that accumulates in the area below your chin. This submental fullness or “double chin” can be a difficult area to target when it comes to fat removal. Kybella is the 1st injectable medication to be able to improve this area of the body.
How does Kybella work?
Kybella (deoxycohlic acid) is injected into the area underneath your chin using a specific injection pattern. The Kybella (deoxycohlic acid) medication destroys the fat cells in the injected area. Your body then flushes these fat cells out of the body. It takes a series of treatments in order to achieve the complete desired results.
Does Kybella have any side effects?
Kybella is the 1st injectable medication to be approved by the FDA. Some of the main side effects are bruising, swelling, and pain to the injection area. Side effects can last just a few days, but please note, Kybella has been seen to cause excessive swelling in some cases. We ask that you plan on 7-10 days of down time to ensure that all the side effects have settled before you are expected at an important event.
Can I use Kybella in other areas?
Kybella has only been approve by the FDA for the area underneath your chin. Case studies have only been done for this submental area. Since it is new on the market, off label use in other areas is not a common practice and not recommended at this time. Consult your injecting physician about any off label questions.
Who can perform Kybella treatments?
Since Kybella is so new to the market, Dr Leif Rogers will be the only provider doing the treatment until he has fully trained his licensed staff. At RR Aesthetics take pride in the extensive training of our staff and will update our website as other providers become available for the Kybella treatment.
