Tattoo removal

Those tattoos seemed like a great idea at the time, didn’t they? But if you now have “tattoo remorse,” you’re hardly alone. (It can happen to the best of us.)

Luckily, the procedure you would have had to endure years ago is a thing of the past. Before lasers, tattoos were removed through painful dermabrasion sanding and a salt solution to remove the dye from your skin.

 How does tattoo removal work?

Laser light breaks up the ink into fragments without penetrating your skin. The ink fragments then clear away on their own.

While the laser technology we have is great, the reality is that it may not get rid of your tattoo 100%. If not, most of the ink will be broken up, making your tattoo look like a very light shadow.

 How many treatments are necessary?

This depends on the size of your tattoo and the colors used. For large or lighter colored tattoos, you will need up to 14 treatments to remove it. For smaller, darker tattoos, 3 treatments might be enough. Yes, the darker colors are easier to remove.

Your tattoo removal procedures are performed over a period of months, usually every 6-8 weeks.

 Does tattoo removal hurt?

The procedure is definitely less painful than the tattoo itself. Remember in high school when someone snapped a rubber band against your skin? That’s what tattoo removal feels like. Still, we use a topical anesthetic to help you feel more comfortable.

 What is recovery like?

The after-effect of laser tattoo removal is a lot like mild sunburn and lasts for 1-2 weeks. You can go right back to work or play after your treatments, though.

We’ll give you some after-care instructions that will probably involve cleaning the area, applying an ointment, and avoiding the sun.

 Is tattoo removal safe?

Yes, lasers are non-invasive and safe. If you have darker skin, discoloration is possible, and some people may experience a scar.

So, talk to us before deciding to have your tattoo removed. We’ll give you the straight talk about what you can expect and the risks involved.

Most people are very happy with the procedure and relieved to finally be rid of a tattoo that no longer expresses who they are.
